I'm really torn on how to rate this. And some people fall in love with books about falling in love. I have a hard time reading novels from the German perspective on WWII.

It doesn't really matter. Written by a survivor of the U-boat fleet, I'm sure the language (which is excessive) isn't much of a problem considering what 13 year olds hear these days is fine. Auch wenn Buchheim hier die Eindrücke von verschiedenen Feindfahrten zu einer zusammenschreibt. The book in every page makes you bite your nails & thanks to this book, I won't be using the nail sharpener for weeks to come.
